What is the difference between a fascinator and a hatinator?

A fascinator is a headpiece which has a headband, a comb or a clip to attach to your hair. It may be plain or decorated with flowers and feathers.

A hatinator is basically a large fascinator. It usually features a wide brim which makes it more impressive. There is no universally agreed size that distinguishes a hatinator from a fascinator.  The term “extra large fascinator” is also commonly used for larger styles.

Note for Royal Enclosure guests at Royal Ascot: The Royal Enclosure dress code defines a fascinator as a small headpiece with a diameter under 4inches / 10 cm. These fascinators are not permitted. Larger fascinators (i.e. hatinators) are allowed by the Royal Enclosure dress code.
